StagSense has been tested against real deer data in 13 states, using four independent measures: hunter harvest, deer-vehicle collisions, GPS-collared deer, and a nationwide trail-camera sample. The score held up statistically in 9 of the 13 states, even after accounting for time of year. In 3 more it leaned the same way without being conclusive, and in Colorado it showed no relationship.
In Maryland, Virginia and Georgia, top-rated days produced 1.4 to 1.8 times the archery harvest of low-rated days in the same county and the same month. Even outside the rut, top-rated days produced about 20 to 25% more archery harvest in all three states. In all three states, buck harvest tracked the score more strongly than doe harvest.
Deer-vehicle collision records agree in 7 of the 11 states we tested, after accounting for time of year. In Colorado, where mule deer dominate, the score showed no relationship. Collision data in Wisconsin, Tennessee and North Carolina leaned positive but was not conclusive.
A nationwide trail-camera sample of 40 locations, with no traffic or hunting-effort bias, agreed with the pattern too, modestly but consistently.
GPS-collared does in western Virginia added a fourth measure: their movement tracked the score most closely during the pre-rut.

The rut is the white-tailed deer breeding season, and it unfolds across several distinct phases over multiple weeks. During the rut, deer move more during daylight and take risks they would otherwise avoid. StagSense breaks the rut into seven individual phases (Pre-Rut, Scraping, Seeking, Chasing, Peak Rut, Post Rut, and Secondary Rut), timed from state wildlife agency data and published deer research where it exists, with a latitude-based estimate everywhere else.
Every location starts from a latitude-based rut estimate. Wherever a state wildlife agency or published deer research gives us real rut timing, StagSense uses that instead, and names the source in the app. Today that covers 40 states: county or sub-county dates in 13, part of the state in 7, and a statewide date in 20. Indiana shows why the detail matters. Indiana DNR's "Average Annual Peak Deer Rut" data resolves all 92 counties into 17 zones, so Ohio County in the southeast and Pike County in the southwest, only about half a degree of latitude apart, show peak rut dates a full month apart (October 21 and November 20). A latitude-only model would give both the same date. In the app, the rut phase card names the source your date came from and links to the document behind it. Where the source is deer-vehicle collision records, as in Indiana, the date marks peak deer movement rather than a direct measure of conception. See every state and its level of detail.
No. No app can make that promise. StagSense gives you the best available read on when deer are most likely moving, and deer generally follow these patterns. A high-rated day is a better day to be in the woods, not a guaranteed encounter.

StagSense sends a daily morning summary of today's conditions, an evening preview of tomorrow, a 3-day outlook, and an alert whenever the rut phase changes near your location. StagSense is built specifically for white-tailed deer. Other large game species that follow similar movement patterns may benefit from the same forecast, but the scoring model is tuned for whitetail behavior and the rut phases are specific to white-tailed deer.
Yes. Premium users can save up to 10 locations and get a movement forecast for each one. Push notifications are configurable per location, so you know which property is worth the drive before you leave. Free users get one saved location.
Premium users can use History Rewind to select any date in the past year and view the movement rating, rut phase, intensity, and weather conditions for that day. It's useful for understanding what was happening on past hunts and for studying how conditions correlate with deer activity over time.
Yes. StagSense can prompt you to rate the accuracy of yesterday's forecast after you've viewed it. This feedback reminder can be turned on or off in Notification settings.
StagSense does not share your data for marketing or any similar purpose. That is why we operate on a subscription model. StagSense requires your location (GPS or manually entered) to generate local forecasts, and we use third-party services for location naming and weather data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Yes. You can delete your account directly from the app after verifying your identity. This permanently removes all your data. If you create a new account later, you start fresh.
Yes. StagSense Free is completely free with no time limit. New accounts also receive a one-time Premium trial with full access to all Premium features, no credit card required. At the end of the trial, the account returns to Free automatically.

No. Your account downgrades from Premium to Free at the end of the current billing period. Premium features like saved locations and Custom Model Weighting are retained but inactive on the Free tier. Resubscribe and they become available again immediately.
If you paid for Premium and the app doesn't show it, open the upgrade screen and tap "Restore existing subscription." That fixes most cases. If it doesn't, email us at support at stagsense dot com with the store you bought from (App Store or Google Play) and roughly when you bought, and we'll sort it out.
